Michael Cox, mastermind behind Petrol Bomb Samosa and Cairo Trip Hop Underground, will lead a live 5 piece band at Taxim Bellydance Showcase in Los Angeles.

This ensemble will play an unplugged set of traditional Arabic songs. Instrumentation includes the ‘ud, nay (Arabic flute), violin, cello and percussion.

May 24, 2006 Tantra Lounge Vol.4 Petrol Bomb Samosa has a brand new track, “Baghdad Groove” on “Tantra Lounge Vol. 4,” from Varese Sarabande, set to drop on May 24. This is a remix of the classic Arabic song, “El Samer.” Also on this sultry compilation are tracks from Natacha Atlas, Thievery Corporation, and Bombay Dub Orchestra.
May 20, 2006 Spring Festival of World Music: This isn’t the Cairo Trip Hop Underground, or Petrol Bomb Samosa, this is the UCLA Near East Ensemble. This is the real deal, no drum machines, samplers or keyboards. This 25 piece ensemble under the direction of Ali Jihad Racy plays the classics of Arabic music as well as original compositions by the director. The instrumentation includes the ud, qanun, nay, violin, and percussion. Michael Cox, mastermind behind Petrol Bomb Samosa and Cairo Trip Hop Underground plays the cello. Master percussionist Suhail Kaspar will rock the tabla.

This concert is part of the Spring Festival of World Music, May 20, 7:00pm at Schoenberg Hall at UCLA.
